The "2025 Academic Conference of the Emergency Medicine Branch of the China Geriatrics Society" co-organized by the On-site Rapid Testing and Smart Home Testing Committee of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, the Mobile Cabin Medical Branch of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, the Emergency Branch of the China Medical Rescue Association, and the Second People's Hospital of Guangdong Province was successfully held and achieved a complete success at the Baiyun International Conference Center in Guangzhou.
Focus on the cutting-edge and seek common development
On August 23rd, Professor Fan Li, the president of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, Professor Kang Xixiong, the honorary president of the POCT Branch of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, and Professor Guo Wei, the president of the Emergency Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and the POCT Branch of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches at the conference. All vice presidents, standing committee members, committee members of the Emergency Medicine Branch and medical colleagues from the Guangzhou area attended the meeting together.
This conference is rich in content and diverse in form, integrating fields such as emergency medicine, geriatrics, point-of-care testing (POCT) technology, and emergency rescue. It features one main venue, nine offline academic sub-venues, five online academic sub-venues, four practical workshops (Workshops), and one plenary meeting of all committee members. It covers academic lectures, practical operations, special topic discussions, skills training and achievement releases, etc. The core of the conference focuses on the cutting-edge technologies, innovative concepts and standardized diagnosis and treatment systems for acute and critical care in the elderly. It aims to enhance the success rate of emergency treatment for the elderly and the quality of life of patients by deepening the integration of multiple disciplines.

The conference closely followed clinical practice, gathering top domestic experts. It focused on hot and difficult issues in areas such as resuscitation strategies for specific elderly populations, infection control, nutritional support, clinical application of point-of-care testing (POCT), emergency rescue for major events, and mobile cabin medical care. Through special reports, case analyses and other forms, Five specialized sub-forums, namely Trauma and Infection, Critical Care and Nutrition, emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the application and quality management of POCT in the prevention and treatment of major chronic diseases, and the cutting-edge development of home diagnostics, will be set up, along with the China Association for Medical Devices Industry's Mobile Cabin Medical Exchange Conference (2025SMA), to carry out systematic and in-depth exchanges and discussions. To provide multi-dimensional ideas and solutions for addressing the clinical pain points in the diagnosis and treatment of elderly patients, and to create a high-quality academic exchange feast for all participants.
It is worth noting that the "Guidelines for the Collaborative Management of Medical and Pharmaceutical Antibacterial Treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia in Emergency Adults" was officially released during the conference. This guideline brings together the consensus of experts from multiple disciplines such as emergency medicine, respiratory diseases, and pharmacy in China. It offers recommended opinions on key links such as the rational use of antibacterial drugs and the collaborative management process of medicine and pharmacy in the diagnosis and treatment of adult community-acquired pneumonia in the emergency department. It not only provides scientific guidance for clinical diagnosis and treatment but also offers strong support for improving industry standards and enhancing the quality of diagnosis and treatment in related fields.

The Children's Rare Disease Imaging sub-forum, with the core theme of "Making Rare Diseases' Rare and Easy to See '", systematically showcases the application potential and the latest research progress of imaging techniques in the diagnosis of children's rare diseases, gathers the consensus of multi-disciplinary experts on collaborative efforts, and encourages all practitioners to use advanced imaging techniques as their" sharp eyes "to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of children patients.
The science popularization sub-forum focuses on the dissemination of medical knowledge, transforming professional and abstruse medical content into plain language. Through forms such as case studies and interactive Q&A, it fulfills the health science popularization responsibilities of medical workers and helps enhance the public's health literacy.
In addition, the conference has set up five online sub-forums, namely emergency Stroke, narrative medicine, Biomedical Engineering Innovation, emergency nursing, and emergency poisoning. Relying on the online platform, it breaks down geographical barriers and expands the academic reach. The topics of each online sub-forum are both professional and communicative, covering areas such as the role positioning of emergency care, the construction of green channels for stroke emergency rescue, the application of narrative medicine in emergency care, poisoning treatment, and new bioengineering technologies. They multi-dimensionally demonstrate the rich connotations and development extensions of the emergency medicine system.

The Bronchoscopy and Respiratory Support Workshop focuses on the core technologies of airway management and respiratory support for elderly critically ill patients. It adopts a model of "theoretical explanation + practical demonstration + hands-on guidance" to help participants master key skills such as equipment operation and airway assessment in an immersive way, and effectively enhance their clinical practical operation abilities.
The Workshop on Appropriate Traditional Chinese Medicine Techniques for Emergency Care focuses on the application of traditional Chinese medicine in geriatric emergencies. Through case analysis, technical demonstrations and practical exercises, it helps participants accurately grasp the key points of technical operations and showcases the unique advantages and application potential of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine emergency care.
The POCT qualification Teaching Interactive Workshop takes the POCT quality management norms as its core, conducts interactive teaching and simulation assessment in combination with actual clinical scenarios, strengthens the standardization of the testing process, key points of quality control, and other contents, and lays a talent foundation for improving the accuracy and reliability of rapid testing results in medical institutions.
Unite our efforts to plan and layout
The meeting was held concurrently with the plenary session of the Emergency Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society. In a united, pragmatic and efficient atmosphere, the meeting summarized the work, analyzed the situation and arranged tasks. Professor Shan Zhigang, the vice president of the branch, first delivered the 2024 annual work report on behalf of the branch. He comprehensively reviewed the branch's key annual work and phased achievements from multiple dimensions, including the establishment of academic exchange platforms, the cultivation of professional talent teams, the practice of providing medical assistance at the grassroots level, the formulation of diagnosis and treatment guidelines and consensus, and the promotion of cross-disciplinary scientific research collaboration. After thorough discussion among the attending committee members, the conference officially determined the venue for the "2026 Academic Conference of the Emergency Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society", laying a solid foundation for the orderly preparation of subsequent academic activities. Professor Guo Wei, the president of the branch, delivered a concluding speech, expressing gratitude to all the committee members for their participation and dedication. He emphasized that the meeting unified thoughts, clarified directions, and reached a consensus. He called on the committee members to implement the spirit of the meeting, actively participate in the work of the branch, and jointly promote the high-quality development of geriatric emergency medicine in China, contributing to the construction of a Healthy China and the medical needs of an aging society.
The three-day conference, under the meticulous organization and overall coordination of the organizing committee, came to a successful conclusion with the distinct features of a rich and comprehensive agenda and fruitful and practical outcomes. The experts attending the meeting reached a consensus: It is necessary to continuously promote the construction of the discipline system of geriatric emergency medicine, accelerate the standardization and intelligent development of point-of-care testing (POCT) technology, improve the strategic reserve function of smart rapid testing in the emergency treatment system, deepen the exploration of the new collaborative model of "POCT+ geriatric emergency + mobile cabin", and provide more solid technical and mechanism support for meeting the medical needs of an aging society.
President Guo Wei emphasized that this conference is not only an academic exchange platform but also an important milestone in promoting the development of geriatric emergency medicine in our country.
