On July 20, 2025, the Chinese Society of Geriatrics organized and held a review meeting for the project initiation of group standards in Beijing. The meeting reviewed and approved the project initiation applications for two standards: "Norms for Fall Prevention among Elderly People in the Perioperative Period" and "Norms for Fall Prevention among Elderly People at Home". Professor Chen Zheng, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, Professor Yu Pulin, and Director Zhang Jinping, General Secretary of the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch, attended the meeting. This standard project was led by the Geriatric Medical Institution Management Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and jointly drafted by Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing Geriatric Hospital and other units. It aims to provide scientific and standardized intervention guidance for fall prevention among the elderly of advanced age.
As the degree of population aging in our country continues to deepen, the importance of fall prevention and control among the elderly is increasingly prominent. According to statistics, falls are one of the main causes of accidental injury deaths among the elderly over 65 years old. Among them, the risk of falls for the elderly during the perioperative period and those living at home requires special attention. The two standards initiated this time are respectively targeted at medical institutions and home environments, systematically regulating the technical requirements for key links such as risk assessment of falls among the elderly of advanced age, environmental improvement, and care measures.
At the review meeting, Professor Zeng Ping from Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Professor Jin Zhe from Beijing Geriatric Hospital respectively represented the standard writing teams to report on the background, technical content and implementation plans of the two standards. After thorough discussion, experts from the fields of geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine and standardization believe that these two standards are based on clinical practice, with scientific and reasonable content, and possess strong practicality and operability. The project initiation resolution was finally unanimously approved.
