Recently, an expert team composed of the Chinese Geriatrics Society and the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army) traveled to Yunnan to carry out a five-day "10,000-Mile Journey of Grassroots Elderly Medical Care" event, kicking off the series of activities of the "10,000-Mile Journey of Grassroots Elderly Medical Care" in 2025.

President Fan Li, Vice President Cao Feng, Vice President Liu Rongyu of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics, President Jia Jianjun of the Cognitive Impairment Branch, Honorary President Cheng Qingli of the Nephrology Branch, Vice President Zhang Dong of the Palliative Medicine Branch, and Head Nurse Wu Shuping of the Medical Care Branch, among other experts, participated in this event.

Experts went deep into the grassroots level to popularize science for the elderly and carry out free medical consultations. At the free medical consultation site, patients formed a long queue in front of the expert's desk. "The expert said that my recovery after the surgery is going well and I can finally sleep soundly!" Uncle Wang, a 64-year-old veteran, said happily. On the other side, medical staff examined the limb functions of the Hani elderly woman and patiently explained the key points of home-based rehabilitation to the family. This free medical consultation has treated over 200 people of all ethnic groups in total. 17 difficult cases such as neuroimmune diseases and early-onset dementia have been screened out, and all have been established in remote follow-up files.

During the event, the expert team also meticulously designed seven distinctive courses, including early screening for cognitive impairment, prevention and treatment of tumors and heart diseases, and held academic lecture activities. During this period, the specially set up bilingual science popularization session of "Hani language + Mandarin" was highly praised by the public.

The expert team came to the People's Hospital of Qiubei County and guided local doctors in a "hands-on teaching + practical guidance" model to enhance the professional skills and diagnosis and treatment levels of grassroots medical staff. Since the launch of the "10,000-Mile Journey of Elderly Medical Workers at the Grassroots Level" campaign, a long-term mechanism of "quarterly Tours + targeted assistance" has been established, and more than ten thousand grassroots medical workers have been trained in total. This year, the society will continue to carry out the "Health Lecture Hall" and "10,000-Mile Journey of Grassroots Elderly Medical Care" activities across the country. Adhering to the society's mission of "developing geriatric medicine and serving elderly health", it will strive to be a guardian of the health of the elderly and contribute to improving the level of grassroots elderly health services.
